FAQ

  • I see the therapeutic relationship as the foundation of psychotherapy, and I aim to create a space of comfort and safety where you can find the courage to sit with yourself compassionately and honestly. From that solid foundation, I’ll join you in exploring aspects of your situation, choices, emotions, desires, and identity so that you might gain more self-acceptance, self-compassion, and self-motivation. I’ll also gently challenge you to look at patterns that may not be serving you anymore.

Sometimes therapy can be about coming to see reality as it is and finding ways to be at peace in that acceptance. It is often hard to sit with some aspects of reality that you might have been avoiding. For this reason, therapy is not always comfortable. I encourage you to be gentle with yourself during these more tender times.

In the end, I hope therapy serves your needs to connect better to yourself and others, to feel less isolated or down, and to realize your own capacity to change your experience.

  • I am currently offering both in-person and secure video sessions.

Benefits of remote sessions include ease of scheduling and the ability to meet from the comfort of home.

For established clients, I also offer in-person sessions at my sunny, rural office in North Ferrisburgh, 20 minutes from both Burlington and Middlebury.

Many of my clients find that a hybrid format, with some sessions remote and some in person, works well.

  • Appointments are 50-55 minutes long, which is the standard length of a counseling session. If you are interested in a longer session (75-120 minutes), please contact me regarding availability and pricing.

  • To begin, I usually suggest meeting once a week. I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly; otherwise, progress sometimes stalls out. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often will make sense.

Some people seek therapy to address an acute or specific issue, while others attend therapy as a way of cultivating personal growth and insight. Many fall somewhere in between. How long you stay in therapy depends on what you seek to accomplish. I’m happy to support you for as long or as little time as you find therapy to be beneficial.

  • Standard therapy sessions cost $150, and payment will be collected at the time of service. I offer automatic online payments for convenience.

  • No, I do not accept insurance. I do provide detailed receipts, also called superbills, for you to submit to your insurance company so that you can seek reimbursement.

As an example: If your insurance plan offers 70% coinsurance for out-of-network providers, your out-of-pocket cost will be $45 after reimbursement.

I always recommend reviewing the details of your insurance plan, so you know what to expect. I’m happy to provide help with this process.

  • Yes, I offer a sliding scale for a limited number of clients, prioritizing for those in marginalized groups. However, reduced-fee slots in my caseload are currently full.
